JACKSON, Mo. -- In a soccer season filled with an uncommon number of tie games, add yet another.

Cape Central (10-4-6) and Jackson (11-5-5) battled to a 2-2 deadlock at Jackson Soccer Field on Tuesday.

"I've never had six ties in a season," said Lady Tiger coach Tom Doyle. "I've probably had six in five years. I guess, a big part of it is the parity between teams."

Early on in this contest, a tie seemed hardly a possibility as the Lady Tigers came out of the gate quickly. Amber Voerg scored off a cross from Trisha Klipfel with barely three minutes gone to stake Central to a 1-0 lead.

The goal by Voerg, the Lady Tigers' all-time scoring leader, was No. 100 for the senior in her stellar career. She saw little action in the second half, however, due to illness.

The Lady Tigers kept the heat on as they netted another score at the 31-minute mark of the first half to go up 2-0. Ali McGinty scored inside the box on an assist from Katie Hawkins.

"For the first twenty minutes or so of the game we just didn't come out and play," said Jackson coach Zack Walton.

But with about three minutes to go in the half, the Lady Indians bounced back to narrow the margin to 2-1.

With action centered in front of the Cape Central goal, a Jackson shot attempt bounced off the right post to Katie Biri who fed Lacie Hodo for the goal.

After the intermission, Jackson's Erin Mayfield sent one home off an assist from Whitney Dietl to knot the score at 2-2 with 25 minutes left.

"It says a lot for us to come back from a 2-0 deficit," said Walton. "That says that we don't give up and we're going to keep fighting and doing what we have to do to get back in the game."

The match remained a stalemate for the rest of regulation and through two five-minute overtime periods.

Cape Central's Doyle, although wanting the win, was comfortable with the tie.

"In this particular case, the tie really didn't hurt us," said Doyle. "We should get the No. 1 seed in districts, because of our conference record, and our record against Jackson (Central defeated Jackson 3-1 earlier in the season) and Poplar Bluff."
