How successful was Cape Central at the SEMO Conference Cross Country Meet Thursday at Cape County Park?

The school recorded a clean sweep within its sweep of four races.

Cape Central recorded decisive victories in each race, including a perfect 15 score in the girls' JV race.

"The program looked very strong," said Cape Central coach Mark Hahn, who saw three of his runners place first. "The thing that helped us is the kids put so much work into the offseason."

Mark Stone placed first in the varsity boys race in 17:25 as Central finished with a 23-point total. Kelly (61) was a distant second, followed by Poplar bluff (65) and Jackson (76).

The Tigers occupied the top three positions as Justin Hawkins (17:35) and Gabe Austin (17:45) placed second and third, respectively. The Tigers' Ross Tilghman (18:30) also placed fifth.

All conference honors went to the top 10 finishers in each event.

The Cape Central girls ran away from all other competitors with a 28-point, first-place finish. Jackson's girls (65) finished second.

The Lady Tigers saw Lane Thommason (20:49) and Kim Pancoast (21-29) finish 1-2.

"This might be the first (SEMO Conference) girls title ever for Cape Central," said Hahn. Historically, Jackson has dominated the event, winning 14 out of the last 15 races, with the Lady Tigers finishing second for seven years in a row.

The Cape Central JV boys team recorded first place, outdistancing Jackson 21 to 65. The Tiger JV boys ended up with seven of the top ten finishers. Cape Central's Leland Wolk (20:01) notched second place and teammate Matt Edwards (20:03) finished third.
