The Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth team held visiting Dexter to one hit in Thursday's doubleheader opener, but Cape was held to just two hits in the second game and settled for a split at Capaha Field.

Cape routed Dexter 15-0 in the opening game thanks to a one-hit shutout from Brett Heischmidt.

Jacob Valleroy and Logan Glueck each went 3-for-3, and Luke Moll was 2-for-2 for Cape.

In the second game, Justin Myers took the loss in relief. Starting pitcher Nick Ostendorf allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Cape (5-4) will travel to Portageville on Monday.

Cape Legionoutslugs Paducah

Cape Girardeau's American Legion team outslugged host Paducah on Thursday in an 11-9 win.

Post 63 took two of three games from Paducah after splitting a home doubleheader on Wednesday. Ford & Sons improved to 11-4 with the nine-inning win.

Matt Hester led the 10-hit attack with a 3-for-5 performance. Brad LaBruyere, Alex Shell and Zach Plott had two hits apiece. LaBruyere had three RBIs, Shell had two RBIs and Blake Slattery added a two-run home run.

Mark Himmelberg allowed 12 hits and eight runs over six innings for the win. Himmelberg struck out 10 and walked one.

LaBruyere allowed one run on three hits and struck out four over the final three innings for the save.

Scott County's Seyertosses shutout in tourney

Scott County American Legion starter Chase Seyer threw six shutout innings in a 4-0 win over Marshall (Mo.) on Thursday in its opener of the Mountain Home (Ark.) Tournament.

Seyer struck out six, walked three and allowed four hits. Chris Asmus struck out one in a scoreless seventh.

Shae Simmons had two hits and two RBIs to lead Scott County (8-3). Seyer added two hits.

Scott County is back in action at noon today and will play at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.
