Capahas win in Florida tourney

The Plaza Tire Capahas won their second straight game during round-robin play in the Union Printers tournament in Daytona, Fla.

Monday's victim was a team from St. Louis as the Capahas rolled 10-1. That came after Sunday's 13-0, seven-inning rout of a squad from Boston.

The Capahas (23-10) had an easy time Monday despite being outhit 10-7. They benefited from 11 walks.

"You usually don't win 10-1 when you get outhit," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said. "But we got a lot of walks and we had some timely hits."

Brad LaBruyere pitched all nine innings for the victory. He struck out eight and walked none.

"He allowed 10 hits but he scattered them," Bolen said. "He's just around the plate all the time."

Daryl Graham and Drew Pixley led the Capahas with two hits apiece.

The Capahas got off to a fast start with two first-inning runs. Graham singled with one out, Josh Eftink walked and Kody Campbell delivered a two-RBI double.

Graham's two-RBI single highlighted a three-run second inning that made it 5-0. Blake Gaddis had a three-run triple in the third inning to make it 8-0.

"We're playing well," said Bolen, whose squad did not commit an error.

The Capahas return to action at 10 a.m. today against a team from Chicago as pool play concludes. The Capahas are the only undefeated squad in the four-team tournament.

Noteworthy

* The Capahas have finally learned their opponent and date for the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.

Bolen said the Capahas will play the Seattle (Wash.) Studs Aug. 3 at a time to be determined.
