The Plaza Tire Capahas and Charleston Riverdogs waged quite a battle Wednesday night in Charleston, Mo.

Charleston was within two outs of winning before the Capahas scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to forge a 1-1 tie.

The Capahas then outlasted the Riverdogs, scoring again in the 14th inning to post a thrilling 2-1 victory.

"They really played a good ballgame. They made several very good catches in the outfield," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said of the Riverdogs.

The Capahas improved to 10-1, with three of the wins over the Riverdogs -- but all have been highly competitive.

Plaza Tire swept a home doubleheader from Charleston on June 2, winning 6-0 -- thanks to five unearned runs -- and 4-3.

"They've got a pretty good team. They pitch well and they hit the ball," said Bolen, whose squad is scheduled to play the Riverdogs three more times this year, including Sunday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Charleston.

Kenton Parmley began the Capahas' ninth-inning rally with a one-out double. He scored the tying run on Kody Campbell's RBI single.

Things remained 1-1 until the 14th. Parmley led off with a single and went to second on a wild pickoff throw. Mark Hagedorn delivered a one-out RBI single.

The Riverdogs scored their run in the seventh inning. Dylan Koehler walked, was sacrificed to second and came around on Ryan Siebert's RBI single.

Kirk Boeller pitched the first eight innings for the Capahas. He allowed eight hits and one run while striking out seven.

Andrew Williams notched the victory with six innings of shutout relief. He allowed three hits and struck out three.

Alex Beussink worked the first 8 1/3 innings for the Riverdogs, allowing one run. Brady Wright hurled the final 5 2/3 innings, giving up a run and taking the loss.

"They both pitched very well and so did our two pitchers," Bolen said.

The Capahas had nine hits, led by Campbell with three and Parmley with two.

Seth Childers had two of the Riverdogs' 11 hits.

The Capahas return to action Friday with an 8 p.m. home game against the Raging Bulls. The teams will also play a 1 .m. doubleheader Saturday at Capaha Field.
