The Capahas used a pair of strong pitching performances and a healthy dose of two-out hitting to sweep the visiting St. Louis Printers on Saturday at Capaha Field.
The Capahas won the opener 4-2 behind the complete-game pitching of Dylan Lynn, then posted a 7-0 victory with Lance Young and Andrew Williams combining on a seven-inning shutout.
Nine of the 11 runs scored by the Capahas (6-3) on the day came with two outs, including all four in a comeback effort in the opener.
The Printers scored both their runs in the top of the fourth inning, but the Capahas grabbed the lead in the home half of the fifth. Laban Petzoldt tied the game with a two-run double before Alex Heuring chased him home with a line single over shortstop for a 3-2 advantage.
The Capahas tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Drew Morecraft doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Cody Heisserer.
Meanwhile, Lynn kept the Printers scoreless the remainder of the game. The right-hander struck out 10, did not walk a batter and allowed six hits. Both runs were earned.
The Capahas broke loose for a five-run outburst in the nightcap after a two-out error in the third inning loaded the bases. Adam Connor made the Printers pay with a two-run single and, after Morecraft reached on an infield single to reload the bases, Heisserer increased the lead to 3-0 with a walk. Cody Gilbert chased home two more runs with a double for a 5-0 advantage.
Morecraft and Heisserer added RBI singles in the fifth inning when the Capahas completed the scoring.
Young had a no-hitter going with two outs in the fifth inning and allowed just two hits over six innings. He struck out two and walked one. Andrew Young allowed one hit over the final inning.
The Capahas, who have won three in a row and six of their last seven games, return to action Monday when they visit the St. Louis Bulls for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
