After three rainouts this week, Plaza Tire swept the St. Louis squad.

Sunday's doubleheader between the Plaza Tire Capahas and St. Louis Printers might not have seemed all that important to most fans.

But Capahas manager Jess Bolen said he placed major emphasis on the twin bill at Capaha Field, which Plaza Tire swept 4-1 and 15-3.

The Capahas had three games rained out since they won the National Baseball Congress Mid-South Regional last Sunday, including Saturday's scheduled home doubleheader against the St. Louis Golden Spikes.

With the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan., only a couple of weeks away, Bolen had plenty of pitchers who needed work.

"Whether we had won or lost these two games today, we needed to play them," Bolen said. "We didn't get a chance to use very many pitchers last weekend in the tournament, and a lot of our guys hadn't thrown in a while.

"We really needed to give some pitchers work to keep them sharp."

Plaza Tire used six hurlers, with nobody working more than three innings.

"We were able to spread the work around pretty good," Bolen said.

That Plaza Tire was able to capture both games only added to the day's benefit. The Capahas are 20-6 and have won six straight.

"We were a little rusty after not playing in a week, but it's always nice to win," Bolen said.

The Capahas had just four hits in the opener but still eased to victory. Lance Seasor doubled and drove in two runs, while Robby Moore doubled and scored twice.

Chad Bogenpohl pitched the first two innings for the win, allowing one hit and striking out four. Lanson Debrock gave up a hit and an unearned run in two innings. Jamie McAlister allowed a hit in two innings, and Josh Parham finished up with a hitless inning.

In the nightcap, Plaza Tire only led 3-2 before breaking things wide open with two runs in the fifth and 10 more in the sixth.

This time the Capahas banged out 20 hits -- including 10 in the sixth. Seasor led the way with four hits, including two doubles. He also had five RBIs, giving him seven for the day.

McAlister, who batted in both games because the Capahas were shorthanded, had three hits, as did Moore.

Josh Eftink homered -- his fourth home run in the past five contests -- and added two hits. Levi Olson doubled twice, while also getting two hits were Bryan Kurt, Bryan Ingram and Bryan Austin. Kurt and Ingram both had two RBIs.

Ryan Forsyth was the winner, allowing two hits and one run in three innings. Jason Chavez gave up three hits and two runs in three innings, and Parham again worked a hitless frame.

Rick Mundy homered in the nightcap for the Printers, who had just eight hits in the two games.
