ST. LOUIS -- The Craftsman Union Capahas and St. Louis Printers completed their eight-game season series by splitting a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
After an 8-5 victory in the opener, the visiting Capahas suffered an 11-5 loss. The Capahas, who are 13-6, won five of the eight meetings with the Printers.
"They have a good ballclub and we've had some good games with them this year," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen.
Lanson Debrock pitched all seven innings to notch the first-game win. He allowed nine hits while striking out three and walking three.
Dave Lawson and Steve Kress both had three of the Capahas' 12 hits. Tom Bolen had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Denver Stuckey had two hits and three RBIs while Dan Berry added two hits.
Brad Purcell suffered the second-game loss. In five innings, he allowed eight hits and eight runs (five earned), with seven strikeouts and four walks.
Stuckey, seeing his first mound action of the year because the Capahas have several injured pitchers, allowed three runs (two earned) on just one hit in one inning.
Purcell, batting for the first time this year because of some injuries to regulars, had two of the Capahas' six hits.
Even though the Capahas dropped the nightcap, they pulled off a rare triple play. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning and the runners moving, first baseman Berry caught a line drive, stepped on first for the second out and threw to second for the third out.
