The Plaza Tire Capahas christened their season with a split of a doubleheader against the host Charleston Riverdogs on Sunday.
Charleston won an error-marred opener 11-10 in eight innings, but the Capahas rebounded for a 13-7 win in the nightcap.
Capahas manager Jess Bolen said the teams combined for 12 errors in the opener -- six apiece.
"It was the first game out of the chute and you expect a sloppy game, but not that many errors," Bolen said.
Justin Landewee, the third of four pitchers used by Plaza Tire, took the loss.
Cody Heisserer had three of the Capahas' six hits, while Kenton Parmley had two.
Charleston scored five unearned runs in the first off Capahas starter Andrew Williams, who allowed just one earned run over five innings. The Capahas trailed 10-7 entering the seventh inning but took advantage of walks to their 7-8-9 hitters in tying the game.
A leadoff walk by Landewee resulted in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
In the second game, the Capahas scored five runs in the top of the first and never lost the lead. They took an 8-3 lead into the sixth inning and iced the game with another five-run outburst.
Plaza Tire banged out 17 hits in the game to make a winner of starter Lance Young, who struck out seven batters, walked two and allowed four hits over five innings.
Hunter Flippo led the offense with a 4-for-5 performance. Blake Slattery and Brandon Bennett both had three hits, while Alex Heuring and Heisserer each added two hits.
The Capahas return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Heights before making their home debut Friday with an 8 p.m. game against Valmeyer.
