SAUGET, Ill. -- The McDowell Capahas used a dominating, 19-strikeout performance by Brent Self in a 7-1 victory over Sauget (Ill.) Tuesday night.
Self walked six and allowed just two singles. He allowed only an infield single through the first six innings. Sauget scratched out its second hit in the seventh.
"He had a real hopping fastball a real tight slider," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen. "He was really keeping his slider down. It's the hardest I've seen him throw."
The Capahas, who had 10 hits, improved to 12-4 on the season.
Jeff Bourbon, George White and Jimmy Wolsey all had two hits and an RBI. Cory Crosnoe, Tom Bolen, Jerry Wolsey and Lanson Debrock each had a hit. DeBrock also finished with two RBIs.
The Capahas scored single runs in the first and fourth innings. Sauget cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth, but McDowell iced the game with two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth.
