The Plaza Tire Capahas bounced back from an upset loss to beat one of the top teams on their schedule.

A 19-hit attack paved the way for Wednesday night's 9-4 victory over host Waterloo, Ill., as the Capahas improved to 20-9.

Waterloo won the recent Valmeyer, Ill., tournament, beating the Capahas 10-2 in the semifinals. The Capahas, who defeated Waterloo 4-1 early in the season, were coming off Tuesday's 3-2 loss at first-year program Perryville.

Sean Bard led the Capahas by going 4 for 5 with two doubles.

Daryl Graham went 3 for 6, including a home run.

Jordan Kimball, Kody Campbell, Clint Cashen and Drew Pixley all added two hits.

Anthony Maupin pitched the first seven innings for the win. He allowed three hits, including a three-run homer, in the first inning but gave up just one more run and three more hits. He struck out six and walked none.

Brad LaBruyere finished up with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Campbell's two-run first-inning single gave the Capahas a quick 2-0 lead, but Waterloo answered with three in the bottom of the frame.

Blake Gaddis tied it 3-3 with a fourth-inning RBI double and the Capahas went ahead for good with a five-run fifth inning highlighted by Graham's leadoff homer.

The Capahas close out their home schedule this weekend with a pair of 1 p.m. doubleheaders, Saturday against Fairview Heights, Ill., and Sunday against Perryville.
