Two dominant pitching performances led the Cape Girardeau Craftsman Union Capahas to a pair of victories over the Springfield (Mo.) Thrashers Sunday at Capaha Field.

Richie Phillips hurled a four-hitter and still has not allowed an earned run this season as the Capahas won the first game 5-2, then Jake Alley fired six shutout innings in a 9-1 romp that completed the doubleheader sweep.

The Capahas improved to 12-4 while the Thrashers fell to 9-5.

"We got two tremendous pitching performances," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said. "Richie continues to throw the ball well and Jake really had great stuff."

Phillips (3-0) struck out six and walked two as both Springfield runs were unearned.

Denver Stuckey and Tristen McDonald supplied most of the first-game offense for the Capahas, who had six hits. Stuckey went 3-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

McDonald had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.

In the second game, the Capahas jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and that was more than enough for Alley, who gave up just one hit in six innings, with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Jason Chavez allowed Springfield's lone run, in the seventh inning, but he fanned the side.

The Capahas had 15 hits, led by Steve Kress, who went 3-for-3. Zach Borowiak, Josh Eftink and Dan Berry all added two hits. Tom Cigno had two RBIs.

The Capahas return to action Wednesday night, visiting the St. Louis Printers.
