Capahas pull away from Perryville in 9-5 win

The Plaza Tire Capahas bounced back from Tuesday's loss to get back into the win column.

Perryville put up a strong challenge, but the Capahas pulled away for a 9-5 road victory Wednesday night.

The Capahas improved to 10-2 with their first road triumph of the season. They had dropped their previous two road games, including Tuesday at Fairview Heights, Ill.

"It was a good game for five innings," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said. "Perryville played tough."

The Capahas never trailed but found themselves locked in a 2-2 tie with the Longhorns entering the sixth inning.

The Capahas scored three runs in the sixth inning to go ahead for good. They added four more runs in the seventh inning to build a 9-2 lead.

Tanner Hiett pitched the first six innings for the victory. He allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.

Logan Bartels finished up. He allowed three runs, two earned, and three hits over three innings.

"We've played so many games lately we're kind of thin on pitching," Bolen said. "Both guys did a good job tonight."

Cole Bieser and Clayton Gibbons both had two hits for the Capahas, who were outhit 10-9. Gibbons, Jordan Kimball and Mark Hagedorn all drove in two runs.

The Capahas scored single runs in the second and fifth innings before Perryville tied things with two runs in the fifth. The Capahas then pulled away.

The Capahas continue their home-dominated early schedule with three games at Capaha Field this weekend. They face the St. Louis Printers at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Perryville in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
