Jamie McAlister threw six solid innings as the Plaza Tire Capahas improved to 21-6 with a 6-4 victory over the St. Louis Printers on Thursday at T.R. Hughes Field. Plaza Tire trailed only once in the game, 2-1 after two innings, and led 6-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Robby Moore, Josh Eftink and Levi Olson had two hits apiece for the Capahas. Olson and Eftink added two RBIs apiece.

Derek Herbig pitched two scoreless innings in relief, and Josh Parham allowed two runs in an inning of work.

The Capahas will return to action tonight against Fairview Heights, Ill., for a 7:30 p.m. game at Capaha Field.

Jackson wins in Cal Ripken opener

Jackson advanced to the second round of the Cal Ripken Baseball state tournament for boys in the 12-and-under division Thursday at Jackson.

Jackson posted a 2-1 victory over over the Mineral Area Nationals behind a home run and six innings of work on the mound from winning pitcher Clayton Baker.

Jackson will take on Macon, a 4-0 winner over Marshall, today at noon.

Cape Girardeau fell 8-6 to Kennett and will play Mount Vernon, who suffered a 6-1 loss to Lebanon, today at 2 p.m. in the double-elimination event.
