It wasn't looking good for the Plaza Tire Capahas midway through the second game of their doubleheader Saturday.

The Capahas dropped the first game 16-2 and trailed 9-3 after 5 1/2 innings of the second game.

But the Capahas rallied to win the second game 10-9 to earn a split with visiting Fairview Heights, Ill.

Josh Eftink singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to plate the winning run.

Jacob Wente earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings in relief. He struck out one and walked one.

"That's the best outing for Jacob for us all year," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said.

Jordan Kimball belted a two-run homer to help ignite the Capahas' offense in the second game. Drew Pixley went 2 for 5 with an RBI, while Sean Bard collected three hits and an RBI in the win. Blake Gaddis went 3 for 4 with two triples and three RBIs.

Brad LaBruyere started for the Capahas and went six innings. He allowed nine runs, seven earned, and struck out two.

The Capahas actually led 2-1 after two innings in the opener. But Fairview Heights scored five in the third and eight in the fourth to blow open the contest. It was stopped after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Pixley and Eftink drove in a run apiece in the first game.

Southeast Missouri State outfielder Michael Adamson enjoyed a successful day for Fairview Heights, going 5 for 9 in the two games.

The Capahas (21-10) return to action today when they host Perryville at 1 p.m.
