Capahas lose 2-1 to Golden Spikes

The Plaza Tire Capahas fell to .500 on the season with a 2-1 road loss to the St. Louis Golden Spikes.

Both teams collected just four hits, but the Golden Spikes managed to score single runs in the first and third innings off losing pitcher Dustin Hunter.

The Capahas (5-5), who have lost three of their last four games, countered with their lone run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Brad LaBruyere. Jamie McAlister scored on the hit.

The Capahas threatened to score in the ninth inning with a one-out triple by Drew Pixley. The following batter, Kendal Deason, was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and third. However, Matt Wagner and Josh Eftink struck out to end the game.

"Those are as two a good hitters as I've got," Capahas manager Jess Bolen said. "Right now we're just not scoring runs."

The Capahas scored just a single run in their most recent game, a 5-1 loss to Waterloo, Ill., on Sunday.

Hunter pitched three innings, walking four and allowing two hits. Jason Chavez followed with four scoreless innings and Ryan Poole pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

Plaza Tire returns to action Saturday, when the St. Louis Printers visit Capaha Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
