The McDowell Capahas emerged from the NBC Mid-South Tournament unscathed and will not play another tournament game until next weekend in the winners' bracket finals.

Each of the other teams left in the tournament will resume play today.

The Caps defeated O.B. Clark 8-3 Saturday night in the double elimination tournament. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan., in August.

O.B. Clark, a team from St. Louis, dropped to 15-2, while the Caps improved to 20-6.

The Capahas will play the winner of the Murphysboro-Saline County game. The Saline County-Murphysboro game will be played at 5 p.m. today.

The Capahas were trailing 3-1 in the third inning, but Jeff Bourbon -- who drove in a run in the first with a sacrifice fly -- hit a bases loaded triple in the fourth to put McDowell ahead 4-3. Catcher Shawn Pemberton, the next batter, chased home Bourbon with a single.

McDowell added two more in the fourth on a double by Cory Crosnoe and one in the eighth on a double by Steve Kress.

O.B. Clark scored one in the first and two in the seconds. Three errors played a key role in their scoring.

Chad Bogenpohl pitched brilliantly for the win, going the distance. He held O.B. Clark to six hits.

The Capahas managed 11 hits.

Stuckey went five innings and gave up just three runs on seven hits, four walks and five strikeouts as Murphysboro stunned the St. Louis Printers 11-3 for a seven-inning, run-rule victory. (The game is called after five innings when a team takes a 10-run lead and the game is stopped if a team is ahead by eight after seven innings.)

Murphysboro scored four runs in the second inning on just two hits and added four runs more in the fourth.

Joe Curtis was the losing pitcher for the Printers.

Southern Illinois 9, Ste. Genevieve 1

Southern Illinois ran away with this one, literally.

The Diamondbacks stole 13 bases en route to a blowout in seven innings. Jason Crain swiped five bases.

Former Southeast Missouri State pitcher Shawn Tripp threw a complete game. He allowed just five hits.

Ste. Genevieve dropped to 2-9 on the season and was the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. Southern Illinois improved to 9-7.

Southern Illinois, which lost in seven innings to O.B. Clark late Friday night, was held scoreless in the first inning, but scored one in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Crain went 3-for-4. Josh Franklin also had three hits.

Saline County 7, Pine Bluff 3

In a game which featured several dazzling defensive plays, Saline County was able to come out on top with a more potent offense.

Saline County's first six batters each had at least two hits apiece. Jeremy Todd and Scott Way each had three hits.

Joey Winter picked up the win, going the distance and allowing three runs on five hits. He fanned four.

For Pine Bluff, Bobby Walker, Jeremy Gordon and Richie Nye each had two hits apiece.
