The McDowell Capahas tuned up for the National Baseball Congress World Series as they closed out the regular season with a 5-1 win over visiting Murphysboro, Ill., Wednesday night.

McDowell, which improved its record to 31-8, will open the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with a game against the Wichita Twins.

Six Capaha pitchers combined on a six-hitter Wednesday. Jeffrey Hilz started and worked one inning. Chad Bogenpohl, Lanson Debrock and Brent Self followed and all hurled two innings while Billy Huston and Jerry Wolsey finished up with one inning apiece.

The Capahas had 10 hits, with Kevin Meyer, Shane Allen, Nathan Taylor and Marc Wroten all getting two. Taylor drove in two runs.
