VALMEYER, Ill. -- The Craftsman Union Capahas found the going rough offensively here Saturday afternoon as they suffered a first-round loss in the Valmeyer (Ill.) Tournament.

Granite City (Ill.) left-hander Ryan Sturgeon shut the Capahas down on seven hits during a 4-0 victory.

"He was a soft-throwing left-hander. I don't think he threw 80 miles per hour," said Capahas manager Jess Bolen, whose team fell to 14-7. "But he had us lunging. We just didn't hit the ball."

Lanson Debrock, the starter for the Capahas, went all nine innings and allowed just five hits, with seven strikeouts and no walks. All four of Granite City's runs were unearned, thanks to three costly Capaha errors.

"Lanson threw a very good game," Bolen said.

Denver Stuckey had two hits for the Capahas, who will play at 9 a.m. today in the loser's bracket of the eight-team tourney.
