Brady Wright delivered another gem on the mound, and the Burger King Capahas' offense did just enough to seal the deal.
Wright pitched a complete game, and Alex Heuring drew a walk to plate the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth, leading the Capahas to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Cyclones during pool play at the National Baseball Congress World Series on Friday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
Wright allowed two runs -- one earned -- on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks in picking up the win on the mound.
Heuring led off with a single in the bottom of the second and reached third on a single by Ross James before scoring when Adam Connor grounded into a double play to give the Capahas (17-3) a 1-0 lead.
After the Cyclones tacked on a run to even the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, the Capahas took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Drew Harper. James, who reached on a leadoff double and finished 2-for-4, scored on the play.
Colorado was able to tie the game again, 2-2, in the top of the sixth, but the Capahas loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, as Josh Haggerty tallied the final run on Heuring's walk.
Grant Buchanan threw an inning of relief and was tagged with the pitching loss for the Cyclones. He allowed one hit and an earned run with one walk.
Kyle Parriera got the start on the mound for Colorado but didn't factor into the decision after seven innings of work. He gave up two runs -- both earned -- on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Buchanan (4-for-5) and Austin Lundeen (2-for-3) led the Cyclones at the plate.
The Capahas return to action with their second game in pool play at 9:30 p.m. today against the Wichita Sluggers.
