GOREVILLE, Ill. -- The McDowell Capahas put on an offensive show here Wednesday night that must have left Goreville's players shaking their heads.
The Capahas banged out a whopping 24 hits and slammed seven home runs as they romped 24-1 in seven innings.
"We played at Goreville High School and the fences were maybe 350 feet in center, 265 in right and 295 in left," said McDowell manager Jess Bolen, whose squad improved its record to 8-2. "But by the same token, we used wood (bats) the whole game. Some of the balls hit would have been home runs at Capaha (Field). They were hit well. And some wouldn't have been home runs at Capaha.
"But you get 24 hits in seven innings, you're getting a lot of hard-hit balls. And they were playing on the same field we were."
Darin Kinsolving led the Capahas with four hits, including two homers, and he drove in five runs.
Phil Warren had three hits, including two homers, and six RBIs. Tom Bolen had three hits, including a homer, and four RBIs, while Cory Crosnoe, Chris Sledge and Nathan Taylor all added three hits, with Crosnoe homering.
Shane Allen homered and had two hits while Zach Borowiak added two hits.
Chad Bogenpohl was the winning pitcher. He worked the first four innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out two and walking none.
Billy Huston, who recently joined the Capahas, had a second straight strong relief outing as he hurled three scoreless and hitless innings, fanning five and walking one.
"Bogie pitched well and Billy has really been looking strong," Bolen said.
The Capahas broke things open right away, scoring 11 runs in the opening inning on 10 hits, including four homers. Warren and Bolen both had three-run shots, Kinsolving had a two-run blast and Allen added a solo shot.
