~ Plaza Tire completed its home schedule with a 20-0 record
The Plaza Tire Capahas put the finishing touches on a perfect home season Sunday afternoon.
Manager Jess Bolen's squad beat the Little Rock (Ark.) Rangers 5-2, completing a three-game weekend sweep at Capaha Field.
The Capahas improved to 25-6, including 20-0 at home. They have one regular-season contest left, Tuesday at the St. Louis Golden Spikes.
"It's not easy to have long streaks," Bolen said. "I don't care who you play, winning 20 straight at home. ... And we've won some close games in there, too."
Sunday's game was scheduled for nine innings but only went seven after several Little Rock players succumbed to the heat.
"Three of their players got muscle cramps pretty bad and they really didn't have enough extra players," Bolen said. "In the sixth inning they asked if we could make it a seven-inning game."
The Capahas took control early with four runs in the first inning. Two of the runs were earned.
Cole Bieser led off with a single and Jason Blum walked. Kody Campbell delivered a two-RBI double and Mark Hagedorn's fly ball that was dropped for an error later in the frame allowed two unearned runs to score.
Little Rock scored single runs in the second and fourth innings.
The Capahas got their final run in the sixth inning. Campbell tripled and came home on Hagedorn's sacrifice fly.
Colton Young pitched five innings for the win. He allowed four hits and two runs. He struck out four and walked three.
Logan Holthaus, just getting over a rib injury, earned a save with two dominant innings. He struck out four and allowed one hit.
"I didn't know how he'd be after the injury, but he looked strong," Bolen said.
The Rangers outhit the Capahas 5-4.
Little Rock committed two errors while the Capahas played errorless ball.
Following Tuesday's game in St. Louis, the Capahas will begin preparations for their 31st consecutive trip to the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., which begins Saturday.
The Capahas have yet to find out when they play their first game.
