Jackson’s Camryn Alsdorf played a key role in the Indians’ dominating 63-39 win over the Cape Central Tigers on Thursday at Jackson High School.
Alsdorf, a sophomore, saw some playing time a season ago as a freshman but has seen a larger role in her second season.
“You could always see her ability,” Indians coach Adam Stoneking said. “She’s really long, super active and she wants to create things on defense.
Alsdorf said her activity level on defense is something that has just come naturally.
“I just know where everybody is at all times,” Alsdorf said. “ I would say it’s one of the good traits that I have.”
Alsdorf’s offseason training has been key for her success this season.
“I played AAU and I’ve been training with my trainer,” Alsdorf said. “That’s really helped my game.”
In the win over the Tigers, Alsdorf had 13 points as well as multiple offensive rebounds that kept possessions alive for the Indians.
“I think for the most part we’ve meshed really well as a team,” Stoneking said.
As a team, the Indians held a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and took a 26-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
“I thought we missed a couple of easy ones early on,” Stoneking said. “I felt like eventually as they slowed down, we got a bit faster.”
The switch flipped for the Indians in the second half as they went on a 10-0 run to begin the third to take control of the game.
The Indians led 47-25 after the third and would coast through the fourth to win 63-39.
Katie Waller led the way on offense for the Indians with 20 points, while the aforementioned Alsdorf had 13 points and Holland Guilliams had 13 points as well.
For the Tigers, it was Taylor Horton leading the way with 14 points in the loss. Ki Bogan joined Horton in double figures with 11 points.
“(Horton) can really play,” Stoneking said. “She’s a really good player and having her back really helps (Cape Central). We didn’t know she was going to be back.”
Cape Central (7-8) will be back in action at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 when the Tigers take on Oran in the Jackson Lady Indian Showcase at Jackson High School.
Jackson (9-3) will be taking on Graves County on Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Jackson Lady Indian Showcase.
