Jackson’s Cade McCadams finished his high school career with the school record in the boys’ 1600m on Friday in Jefferson City.
The graduating senior finished 12th in the MSHSAA
Class 5 state championships with a time of 4:17.74, two seconds faster than the record. McCadams is slated to run for Southeast Missouri State next year.
The Jackson mile record was previously held by Dodd McCellan, who set it back in 1987.
Cape Central’s Ryan Seabaugh finished second in the boys’ 1600m ahead of his future college teammates Jonah And Josh Allison of Hillsboro at the Class 4 state championships. He also finished eighth in the boys' 800m with a time of 1:55.58. The graduating senior has the school record in the 1600m (4:15.78) and the 3200m (9:26.45) and is slated to run for Southern Illinois next year.
Notre Dame’s Jacob Brown finished eighth in the boys' 100m with a time of 11.06 to qualify for the Class 3 finals on Saturday.
Notre Dame junior Lauren Eftink finished sixth in the girls 3200m with a time of 11:20.65, establishing a new school record.
Cape Central finished eighth (second in their heat) in the girls’ 4x200m (Haylie Williams, RaKiara Bogan, Aleah Jackson, Amiyah Mackins) with a time of 1:44.96 and qualified for the Class 4 finals on Saturday. The Tigers also finished sixth in the boys' 4x200m (Torrance Murray, Breijon Clemons, Jamauri Brooks-Davis, Marshon Edwards) with a time of 1:30.36.
Notre Dame (Cole Bruenderman, Kyle Eftink, Davis Dow, Jacob Brown) finished seventh with a time of 1:31.80 in the boys' 4x200m and qualified for the Class 3 finals on Saturday.
From the field, Notre Dame’s Katelyn Turner finished eighth in the Class 4 girls' pole vault, and Jackson’s Lillian Gibbs finished seventh (36.53) in the Class 5 girls' discus throw. Gibbs is slated to throw javelin collegiately at Indiana State.
