The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team will be without one of its starting guards for at least one game and possibly more.
Southeast coach Dickey Nutt said Wednesday that senior Marcus Brister will miss Saturday's 7 p.m. home contest against Missouri-Kansas City with a knee injury.
Brister went down during Tuesday's practice. Nutt said it initially was feared that Brister suffered a torn ACL, which would have ended his season, but results of an MRI revealed no structural damage.
"They said he'll be out two weeks, but Marcus is a quick healer," Nutt said. "He definitely won't play Saturday."
The Redhawks will take a break for finals after the UMKC game. They will return to action Dec. 19 when they host SMU.
Brister is tied for third on the Redhawks in scoring with a 7.9 average while ranking third in rebounding with a 3.1 mark. He leads the squad in assists with 28 and is second with eight steals. He is 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference in assists.
Southeast (4-5) is unbeaten in four home games but has lost all five of its road contests. The Redhawks have the program's longest home winning streak since the 2007-08 squad captured six consecutive at the Show Me Center.
"Home has been good to us. Hopefully we can keep that going in these next two games," Nutt said.
