Bulldogs' Wedemeier qualifies for sectionals

Notre Dame's Ben Wedemeier breezed through the singles to win the Class 1 District 1 Individuals Tournament for the Bulldogs on Saturday at Potosi, Mo.

Wedemeier defeated Potosi's Ian Boyer-Faulkner 6-1, 6-1 before triumphing over Arcadia Valley's Joey LaValle 6-2, 6-0 and Brian LaValle 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the championship in the singles.

Mason Seesing and Brendan Boswell placed first in the doubles for the Bulldogs with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Potosi and a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Arcadia Valley before defeating Dexter's Noah Kronk and Ethan Flowers 7-5, 6-3 for the title.

Wedemeier, Seesing and Boswell will compete at the Class 1 Sectional 1 on Tuesday, May 20 at John Burroughs High School in the suburban St. Louis area.

Central's Mailes, Nunnery advance

Central's Alex Mailes and Derek Nunnery swept the competition in the singles at Saturday's Class 2 District 1 Individuals Tournament at Sikeston, Mo.

Mailes only dropped a single set to teammate Nunnery in the championship match as both advanced to the Class 2 Sectional 1 Individuals Tournament, which will be held Tuesday, May 20 at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Mo.

Jonah Roop and Jalen McDowell fell in the championship match of the doubles to Farmington's Ian Powers and Augustine to miss a berth to sectionals for the Tigers.

The second-seeded Tigers rolled over third-seeded Farmington 5-0 in the semifinals before upsetting top-seeded Oakville 5-2 for the Class 2 District 1 Team Tournament championship on Friday at the Sikeston Tennis Complex in Sikeston, Mo.

Central (11-6) will face the winner of Monday's District 4 championship match between Christian Brothers College Preparatory and Ladue Horton Watkins on Saturday, May 24 in the first round of team sectionals in the suburban St. Louis area.

Notre Dame 6, Dexter 0

Although the Bearcats forced three sets in five of six singles matches, top-seeded Notre Dame avoided playing doubles with solid third-set performances in every match as the Bulldogs outlasted fourth-seeded Dexter in a semifinal of the Class 1 District 1 Tournament on Friday.

Notre Dame (11-1) will host second-seeded Arcadia Valley tomorrow at 4 p.m. for the district championship. The Tigers prevailed over third-seeded conference foe Potosi 5-1 in the other district semifinal on Thursday.

Dexter finished its season with a record of 5-5.
