Notre Dame's boys basketball team lost an 11-point lead in a dramatic fourth-quarter collapse as it fell 50-42 to New Madrid County Central on the road Tuesday night.
Notre Dame (11-6) led 39-28 after three quarters but was outscored 22-3 in the final quarter.
Wayne Essner led the way for Notre Dame with 12 points. Cory Beussink added 11 points and had 12 rebounds.
Jackson 94, Perryville 41
Jackson built a 26-point lead in the first quarter and extended the advantage each ensuing period on its way to a rout on the road.
Jackson (8-8) led 59-21 at halftime.
Tyler McNeely, 18 points, was one of six Jackson players to finish in double figures. Brad Eaton finished with 16, Jeff Beck had 13, Nick Fiehler and Tyler Boyd tallied 11 apiece and Jason Schafer had 10.
Aaron Weibrecht scored 14 points for Perryville (5-10).
Jackson won the JV game 59-37.
Meadow Heights 56, Leopold 53
Meadow Heights weathered a late surge by Leopold to remain unbeaten in Mississippi Valley Conference play.
The Panthers improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference with the home victory.
Joey Bell led the way with 19 points while Brad Adams had 11 and Terry Wagner 10. Wagner, a freshman, scored all of his points in the second half.
Josh Van de Ven paced Leopold with 16 points. Kevin Holzum added 15 points and Paul Hutchings had 12.
Meadow Heights took a 10-point lead into the final minute but saw Leopold miss a potential game-tying half-court shot at the buzzer.
Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament
Second-seeded Oran used a big second half to breeze to an 86-49 victory over seventh-seeded Chaffee in the first round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament Tuesday night.
Oran will face third-seeded Kelly in Thursday's semifinals. Kelly posted a 69-49 victory over sixth-seeded Delta in another first-round game on Tuesday.
Thursday's other semifinal will pit top-seeded Scott City against fourth-seeded Scott County Central.
Oran led just 34-27 at halftime but outscored the Red Devils 52-22 after intermission.
Patrick Friga led Oran (11-4) with 17 points. Matt Seyer had five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points, Garrett Roslin and Nathan Seyer had 12 apiece, and Ryne Wood finished with 11.
Sam Burnett scored 15 points for Chaffee (0-9) and Brent Thomason had 13.
Kelly built a 34-19 lead by halftime in its victory over Delta. Chris Romas led the way with 17 points and Lance Scheffer added 16. Joey Keys scored a game-high 20 points for Delta and teammate Derek Helderman finished with 17.
Bell City 105, Woodland 53
Bell City put up its fifth 100-point game of the season in a romp over visiting Woodland.
The Cubs (13-2) jumped out to a 37-9 lead after one quarter en route to their fifth conference win.
Eric Henry led the way for the Cubs with 34 points. Dominitrix Johnson had 27, Kenyon Wright added 11 and A.J. Henry had 13.
For the Cardinals, Travis Benfield led the way with 13 points. Eric Rives and Cody McCraw added 10 points apiece.
Advance 82, Zalma 62
Advance edged out in front of Zalma by one point after the first quarter and cruised from there in a road win over the Bulldogs.
Jared Ritter scored 19 points for the Hornets, who used a 17-8 scoring advantage in the second quarter to pull away. Advance also got 15 points from Zach Hudson and 13 from Zack Kelley.
Jamie Mangrum led the Bulldogs (3-7) with 16 points. Chad Wiseman added 15.
Oak Ridge 73, Marquand 61
Oak Ridge picked up its first win of the season with a road win at Marquand.
The Blue Jays (1-10) trailed by eight points after the first quarter but outscored Marquand by 13 in the second to pull in front 43-38 at halftime. Alex Fadler led the way for Oak Ridge with 28 points. Zach Ruesler had 18, and Kyle Berry added 16.
Southern Missouri 69, New Salem 60
New Salem couldn't recover from a 15-point first quarter deficit and fell at home to Southern Missouri.
John DaVault led New Salem (15-8) with 17 points while Andrew Conway and David Green had 16 apiece. Conway also had 12 rebounds as did DaVault. David Green had 11 rebounds.
Chad Joehrs scored a game-high 20 points for Southern Missouri.
GIRLS' BASKETBALL
New Salem 38, Southern Missouri 36
Sarah Green scored 25 points as New Salem post a slim victory at home.
Elizabeth Nanney and Whitney Woods each had11 rebounds for New Salem (12-6).
BOYS' SWIMMING
ND second in tri-meet
Notre Dame continued its strong season, finishing second at a tri-meet at Principia High School.
Notre Dame (7-6) finished with 126 points, only nine behind MICDS.
Notre Dame got six first-place finishes, including three from Jameson Kuper. Kuper took first in the 200 free in 1:52.03, the 100 free in 51.47 and was a member of the first-place 400 free relay that finished in 3:39.40.
Other members of the 400 free relay included Jordan Kuper, John Fisher and Mark Lester. John Fisher picked up another first-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Fisher finished in a time of 1:00.60. John Stoverink picked up Notre Dame's other top finishes. Stoverink won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.54 and remained undefeated in the diving competition with a score of 180.4. Stoverink is now 10-0 this season in diving.
The Bulldogs got second- place finishes from their 200 medley and 200 free relay teams. Josh Lester, Stoverink, Fisher and Mark Lester finished the 200 medley in 1:57.54. Jordan Kuper, Jameson Kuper, Fisher and Stephen Hine completed the 200 free relay in 1:40.20.
Jordan Kuper was second in the 200 IM, Mark Lester took second in the 500 free, Kenny Schmitz finished third in the 500 free and Josh Lester was third in the 100 back.
