The Notre Dame Bulldogs soccer team had an opportunity to avenge its only loss of the season, but saw Carbondale escape Cape Girardeau's city limits Tuesday with a 1-1 tie.

Notre Dame took an 8-1 record into the match, with its lone loss coming at the hands of the Terriers in the title game of the Notre Dame Soccerfest. Carbondale won that contest 2-1 in overtime.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame looked like it would make the Terriers pay for loss as Adam Obermiller deposited a Chris Dirnberger pass just 12 minutes into the game.

But Carbondale knotted the score 10 minutes later and a scoreless duel set in.

"We played strong but we just couldn't put it in the net," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn.

Wittenborn said his team had the better scoring chances, outshooting Carbondale 15 to 4.

Notre Dame's junior varsity team defeated Carbondale 1-0. Timmy Wencewicz scored the only goal of the game, his sixth of the season, 13 minutes into the first half. Matt Pobst assisted.

Adam Ralls registered the shutout for the Bulldogs (4-0-1).
