The Notre Dame girls basketball team's streak of eight straight district titles came to an end Thursday night with a 50-40 loss to Dexter in the semifinals of the Class 4 District 1 tournament at the Perry Park Center in Perryville.
The Bulldogs, seeded fourth, finished the season 10-17. Dexter will play for its first district title at 6 tonight against No. 3 Perryville.
Notre Dame led 10-9 after one quarter and trailed 32-28 heading into the fourth quarter. Dexter was able to take advantage of its 12-for-14 performance from the line, compared to 4-for-13 for the Bulldogs.
"They hit the free throws and we didn't -- that there pretty well made the difference," Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim said.
Perryville (16-9) pulled off a 49-37 upset of No. 2 seed Fredericktown in the nightcap. Fredericktown was ranked No. 8 in Class 4 in the last state poll.
"We focused on what we needed to do tonight," Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann.
Amber Hacker finished with a game-high 19 points for Perryville. Annette Weibrecht added 11.
