The Notre Dame softball team came close to a perfect season this fall, going 29-1 and finishing third in the state in Class 3.
And with the Bulldogs' success on the diamond came many individual honors for the players.
Notre Dame pitcher Lauren Reinagel, who posted a 28-1 record, earned Class 3 all-state honors. Reinagel's 28 wins tied for second all-time in Missouri for wins in a single season, according to the 2007-08 Missouri State High School Activities Association record book. She also set school records with 253 strikeouts in a season, and five triples in a season while batting fifth in the Notre Dame lineup.
Erika Reinagel, Lauren's cousin who played center field and set school records with 53 hits, 32 stolen bases and a .558 batting average, was also named to the Class 3 all-state first team. Also receiving first-team honors was outfielder Alexis Ralls, who batted third in the lineup and helped the Bulldogs to a .378 team batting average, another school record.
Earning second-team all-state honors for Notre Dame was infielder Heather Menz, who batted .363 and had 13 doubles.
The Kelly softball team, which finished third in Class 2, had two players earn all-state honors. First baseman Casey Kern, a junior who batted third in the Hawks' lineup, was awarded first-team honors, and center fielder Sarah Ruff, the lone senior on the Kelly squad, earned second-team all-state honors.
Oran, which lost in the Class 1 sectionals, had two second-team all-state players: pitcher Callie Kielhofner and infielder Jodi Urhahn.
