ST. LOUIS -- Rams quarterback Marc Bulger expects to play Friday against Washington despite bruising his knee this week in an exhibition loss to Kansas City.

Bulger said Wednesday a precautionary MRI exam a day earlier showed no problems.

"I have a little trouble running right now, but unless I'm told otherwise I anticipate playing" against Washington, Bulger said.

Bulger was injured in the first quarter of Monday's 24-7 loss to the Chiefs. He was 8-for-15 for 67 yards and was sacked three times behind a patchwork offensive line. One of his passes was intercepted and returned 60 yards for a touchdown, putting Kansas City ahead 24-0 late in the first half.

"He's fine," Rams coach Mike Martz said after Wednesday's practice, when Bulger looked sharp. "It's a bone bruise. It's like a pebble-in-your-shoe kind of thing."

Fisher undergoes surgery

Rams cornerback Travis Fisher had surgery Wednesday on his broken right forearm, coach Mike Martz said without speculating how long the third-year pro may be sidelined.

Fisher sustained the injury in the first half of the Rams' 24-7 loss Monday night at Kansas City, and initial reports have projected that Fisher will miss most of the season.

The surgery "went very well," Martz said, adding there's no evidence that the injury caused nerve damage. Doctors "say this was very clean. They're optimistic. It's just a question of how long it takes him to heal."

Fisher, 24, started 15 games last year and tied for the team lead with four interceptions. His 205 interception return yards tied for the NFL lead.
