BRIEFS: SEMO'S POWELL EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR

Southeast Missouri State University senior safety Isaac Powell has been named to the 2000 Verizon Academic All-American All-District VII team.

Powell ranks second on the Southeast football squad in tackles with 106 and he also has two interceptions.

A pre-medicine major, Powell carries a 3.523 grade-point average and has won numerous academic achievement awards. Earlier this year, Black Issues in Higher Education magazine honored Powell as a 2000 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award winner. He has also been named to the Southeast Dean's List twice and the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll twice.
