Marquis Walker saw action but Angel Rubio did not as the two former Southeast Missouri State University football stars began the 1998 NFL season Sunday.
Walker, a cornerback for the Oakland Raiders who is in his third season in the NFL, saw considerable action and was credited with one tackle during a 28-8 loss to Kansas City.
Rubio, a rookie noseguard for the San Francisco 49ers, was one of the 49ers' 46 `active' players Sunday but did not get into the 36-30 overtime victory over the New York Jets.
For each game during the season, NFL teams must designate seven of their 53 players as `inactive.' That list changes from week to week.
