Briefly: Turnovers, red zone futility cost Scott City football team

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. -- Scott City's inability to find the end zone after manuevering into the red zone cost the Rams in their Class 2 District 2 game Friday.

The Rams had four drives, including their first two of the game, reach the red zone but come up empty in their 39-20 loss to Crystal City.

The Rams also were victimized by turnovers. Quarterback Jonathan McFall was intercepted five times and Scott City lost a fumble.

Crystal City running back/defensive back Stacey Thornton created headaches for the Rams on both offense and defense. He rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on offense and picked off McFall three times.

The Hornets rushed for 386 yards to 127 on the ground for Scott City.

McFall did throw for 254 yards and two touchdowns, both to Zach Cotner.

The Rams (4-5) host St. Pius on Thursday, but the loss dropped them from contention for a playoff berth.
