BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- The Ohio Valley Conference named Southeast Missouri State University's Aaron Layne its newcomer of the week Sunday.
Layne, a senior tailback from Orlando, Fla., rushed for 127 yards on 14 carries as Southeast Missouri beat Austin Peay 31-0 Saturday.
Justin Lynch of Eastern Illinois was named offensive player of the week after he rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-14 win over Indiana State.
Corey Chamblin of Tennessee Tech was named best defensive player. He had nine tackles and broke up a pass as Tech beat Murray State 16-13 in overtime.
Bobby Washington of Eastern Kentucky returned three punts for 73 yards and a kickoff for 24 yards to earn special teams player of the week honors. Eastern Kentucky beat Tennessee-Martin 49-0.
