Southeast Missouri State University's softball team won its ninth and 10th straight games Sunday by sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Tennessee State.

The Otahkians prevailed 11-1 and 9-1 in a pair of games shortened to five innings by the run rule. Southeast is now 17-12-1 overall and 10-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

Christine Engelhardt was the winning pitcher in the opener while Debbie Schmelz prevailed in the second game.

Engelhardt pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and striking out six. Schmelz hurled three inning, allowing no runs and two hits. Sara Reichert pitched the final two frames, giving up an unearned run and two hits.

Offensively, Jenny Oermann had three hits and three RBIs in the opener while Josie Earnest and Tami Herbert both added two hits. Leanne Gryncewicz had two hits in the second game. For the day, Southeast had 21 hits.

"We had a solid performance from all three of our pitchers," said Southeast coach Lana Richmond. "All week they've been pitching very well starting and relieving. We're also hitting the ball well. And we only had one error in four games this weekend."

Southeast travels to Carbondale to face Southern Illinois Wednesday.
