CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southeast Missouri State University women's indoor track team had six first-place performances during Saturday's Saluki Booster Club Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois.
Mississippi State won the meet with 134 points, SIU was second with 107 and Southeast placed third with 102. Rounding out the field were Mississippi (96), Vanderbilt (60), Tennessee State (35), Lindendwood (8) and Murray State (6).
Tammy Wenkel had three firsts for Southeast. She won the 800-meters, the 1,600 and was on the victorious 4x400 relay team.
Heather Keltner won the 400, was second in the 200 and was on the 4x400.
Lutricia Purham won the shot put and qualified provisionally for the NCAA Meet while Sara Kaznica captured the pole vault.
Other 4x400 relay members were Kim Stewart and Hannah Stuckenschneider.
Other top-five finishes for the Otahkians were by Amy Arteme (second 5,000); Leslie McNamara (third 5,000); Natalie Talley (third 60, fifth 200); Kim Stewart (fourth 400); Christy Williams (fourth 800); and Stuckenschneider (fifth 600).
"We had some outstanding performances," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "We had more first places than any other school and any time you can beat two out of three Southeastern Conference schools you have to be pleased."
