The Southeast Missouri State University women's basketball team has announced the signing of Veronica Benson, a 5-foot-7 transfer from Bevil State-Fayette Junior College in Fayette, Ala. Benson, who plays both the one- and two-guard positions, was named the Alabama Junior and Community College Conference Division II women's player of the year after averaging 24.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the 1999-2000 season.

"She gives us the quickness and shooting ability that we needed in the guard spots," said Southeast coach Ed Arnzen. "She is an outstanding student and an outstanding person so I am very pleased with her signing at Southeast."
