The Kohlfeld Scorpion Rugby Club roared through the Paducah 7s Tournament last Saturday, going undefeated and beating Fort Campbell (Ky.) 42-26 for the championship.
Kohlfeld scored 28 second-half points against Fort Campbell to turn a close game at halftime into a romp.
All seven Scorpions scored in the tournament, with championship trys going to Tim Joplin, Walter Denton and two each for John Creutz and Mark Lineberry. Other Scorpions to score in the tourney were Dan Grimm, Marc Harris, Alan Kloss and Doug Childers.
`Sevens' is a modified style of rugby with only seven players on each team (instead of the standard 15 players). Games are shorter (7-minute halves as compared to 40 minutes) and are usually played in one-day tournaments during the summer.
The Scorpions have fielded a 7s team for three summers and it is used primarily for fitness and skill development.
