A scoring explosion by the Kohlfeld Scorpions Rugby Club of Cape Girardeau led to an overwhelming 75-14 victory over Scott Air Force Base last Saturday at Arena Park.

Nine Scorpions scored: one try apiece by Matt Clark, Dan Wernick, Shaun Alsdorf, Joey Hann and Marc Harris; and two trys each by John Creutz, Jamie Brackett, Alan Kloss and Mark Lineberry. Sean Hagan provided five conversions kicks.

The result was the largest margin of victory for the Scorpions in several years.

"In rugby, there is no such thing as running up the score," said coach Tim Joplin. "If we score a lot of points, it's the other team's fault for not being prepared to play the game. We ran the same plays and used the same strategy as always; they just couldn't stop us."

The Scorpions, who have two games remaining in the spring season, are preparing for the summer season. They'll host the Riverfest 7's Tournament June 13 at Arena Park.
