Carbondale (Ill.) High School will look to continue its dominance of the Notre Dame Tournament when the annual event gets under way today. The Terriers have won the past three tourney titles.
Play will continue through Saturday. Two fields at the new Notre Dame High School will be used for the eight-team tourney.
"We should have a good tournament," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "Carbondale should be very strong again. Until somebody proves different, they're the favorite."
Four first-round games will be played today. At 3:30 p.m., it's Carbondale vs. Farmington and Jackson vs. Sikeston. At 5 p.m., it's Cape Central vs. Poplar Bluff and Notre Dame vs. Hillsboro.
There will be four more games Friday, two at 3:30 p.m. and two at 5 p.m. The tournament will conclude with four games Saturday: the seventh-place and fifth-place games at 10 a.m., the third-place contest at noon and the championship matchup at 2 p.m.
