Moore was selected to throw the first pitch as part of a large Naval Academy group attending the game.

A member of the varsity baseball team at Navy, Moore helped lead the Midshipmen to the 1999 Patriot League championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The right fielder batted .307 and hit a home run in the NCAA tourney, although Navy was eliminated in two games.
