The Jackson and Eureka baseball teams were locked in a scoreless tie after seven innings of their Class 5 quarterfinal on Thursday at Whitey Herzog Field in Jackson, Missouri.
The Wildcats got three consecutive hits in the top of the eighth, including an RBI single to center by No. 3 hitter Brett Geisz, to score the go-ahead run en route to a 2-0 defeat of the Indians.
Eureka, which advanced to the final four with the win, added its second run on a bases-loaded walk in the frame.
Junior Gavon Turner pitched 7 2/3 innings and had scattered four hits over the first seven innings before allowing three consecutive singles at the start of extra innings. He walked one batter in the top of the eighth and struck out four as he took the loss on the mound.
Eureka senior pitcher Blake Clynes allowed three hits in his complete-game shutout of the Indians. He walked one batter in the bottom of the seventh inning and recorded eight strikeouts.
Jackson finished its season with a record of 22-11.
