Briefly: Fort Zumwalt East routs Central football team

Fort Zumwalt East junior quarterback Shane Barrett threw three first-half touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Lions routed host Central 47-21 on Friday night.

Fort Zumwalt East (4-0) broke a 7-7 first quarter tie with 33 unanswered points in taking a 40-7 lead by halftime.

Lions junior Matt Etherton had three catches on the night, and all three went for touchdowns. Etherton pulled in passes of 51 and 64 yards from Barrett during the second quarter, then scored on a 36-yard toss from backup quarterback Daniel Morris during the third quarter to extend the lead to 47-7.

Braion Owens scored on a 12-yard run for Central (1-3) in the first quarter, and Mikey Jones and Al Young had scoring runs in the second half.

Jones, a senior, led the Tigers with 97 yards on 26 carries after missing the previous week with a knee injury.
