The assault took place Monday night. According to Sgt. Carl Kinnison, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, a Southeast student reported being punched and knocked to the ground after leaving a downtown nightclub.

"The investigation that we have, there is no evidence at all that some (Southeast) football players were involved," said Kinnison.
