BRIEFLY: DERWORT GETS ACADEMIC HONOR

Southeast Missouri State University volleyball player Jackie Derwort has been named to the GTE Academic All-District VII first team that was announced Wednesday.

Derwort has a 3.85 grade-point average in elementary education. By being a member of the all-district team, Derwort now becomes a candidate for Academic All-American honors.

A three-time Southeast Scholar-Athlete and a two-time member of the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Derwort and her teammates will compete in the OVC Tournament in Charleston, Ill., this weekend.

Southeast will take on Morehead State at noon Friday in a first-round match.
