Cape Girardeau Central High School product Talley Haines has been promoted to the Class AAA Durham (N.C.) Bulls by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' organization.
A 1995 Central graduate, Haines joined the Bulls Monday for their season-ending game with Charlotte, N.C. He will also participate with the Bulls when they begin their International League playoffs Wednesday.
A right-handed relief pitcher who is in his third season of professional baseball, the former 25th-round draft pick began the year at the Class A level but was quickly promoted to Class AA Orlando, Fla., where he went 3-3 with three saves and a 1.49 earned-run average. In 54 1/3 innings, he allowed 36 hits while striking out 47 and walking 21.
