Budweiser wins second state softball title

The River Eagle Budweiser men's slow-pitch softball team captured the ASA state championship last weekend at the Shawnee Sports Complex in Cape Girardeau. Just two weeks ago, Budweiser won the WASA state title.

The two 1999 state titles for Budweiser follow a WASA state crown in 1998 and an NSA state title in 1997 to give the local squad four championships in three years. Budweiser also won the Midwest Regional title in 1997.

Budweiser went 5-0 in the state tourney to improve to 75-10 on the year. The team will soon go for its third state title of the season when it competes in the USSSA Tournament in St. Charles.

Players contributing to the championship were Chad Callis, Ed Rinda, Ron Cook, Travis Stevens, Paul Sander, Brad Elfrink, Brian Friga, Mike Kiehne, Danny Dohogne, Matt Diederich, Bill King, Eddie Rhodes, Mark Kiehne, Jimmy Stoverink, Brad Noel, Jeff Steffens and Kevin Ammon.
