Brewers move back struggling Suppan

MILWAUKEE -- Struggling Brewers right-hander Jeff Suppan will have his next start pushed back a day to give him extra time to try to correct the problems he had in his first two outings this season.

Suppan was scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Mets in New York, but Yovani Gallardo will pitch instead and Suppan will take the mound Sunday. The Brewers have an off day Thursday, so Gallardo won't have to pitch on short rest.

Suppan, who pitched in two World Series in three sesons with the St. Louis Cardinals, hasn't made it into the fifth inning in either of his two starts this season, giving up 11 earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. Suppan's struggles date back to the final month of last season -- but he had uncharacteristic control issues in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Cubs, walking in three runs in the fourth inning.

"It's only been a couple of starts, and it's not like other people haven't had two bad starts in a row," Milwaukee manager Ken Macha said. "We're trying to get him back to pitching like his history dictates."
