SCOTT CITY -- Scott County Central High's girls basketball team kept Scott City in its recent slump by beating the host Lady Rams 49-40 Thursday night.
The Bravettes improved to 6-8 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Scott-Mississippi Conference play. The Lady Rams fell to 8-5, 0-2 in the league.
"We've just quit taking the basketball to the hole," said Scott City coach Randy White. "We're just not being aggressive at both ends of court. We've only shot 12 free throws the last three games."
Lakeya Turner led the Bravettes with 13 points while Amy O'Brien and Becca Gowin both had 13 for the Lady Rams.
Scott Central trailed 23-19 at halftime but outscored Scott City 17-5 in a decisive third quarter.
"I thought Scott County really hustled and worked hard," White said.
Said Scott Central coach Semona Penrod, "It was a good game for us. We didn't shoot well in the first half but we did a better job in the second half."
Delta 58, Oran 34
ORAN -- Kristin Fish poured in 22 points as Delta cruised past host Oran in Scott-Mississippi Conference action Thursday night.
Amanda McDaniel added 16 points for the Lady Bobcats, who improved to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Delta trailed 10-6 after the first quarter, but exploded for 22 points in the second quarter for a 28-16 lead at halftime.
Sara Heisserer scored 20 points for Oran, which fell to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Stoddard Co. Tournament
BLOOMFIELD -- Fourth-seeded Bloomfield and seventh-seeded Bernie rolled to semifinal victories Thursday night in the annual Stoddard County Conference Tournament.
Bloomfield, the host squad, routed No. 8 Advance 64-39 while Bernie stormed past No. 3 Woodland 74-54.
Bloomfield and Bernie will square off at 9 o'clock tonight for the championship. Advance and Woodland will play at 6 for third place.
Andy Perry had 18 points to pace Bloomfield (9-8). Nick Hutchison added 14.
Advance (7-8), which had upset No. 1 seed Bell City in the first round, was paced by Tommy Tucker with 12 points. Seth Cantrell had 10.
Patrick Wick scored 17 points for Bernie (7-6), which also got 14 from Josh Long, 13 from Mike Johnson and 10 from Jesse Dirks.
Corey Yount paced Woodland (9-6) with 13 points while Brandon Stinnett and Jason Banderman both added 12.
Advance and Dexter will meet in tonight's JV final at 7:30. In Thursday's JV semifinals, No. 2 Advance beat Bernie 65-43 and No. 1 Dexter downed Woodland 67-56.

Cape Central 43, Poplar Bluff 24
POPLAR BLUFF -- Cape Central improved to 3-4 in duals with a road win Thursday night.
"It was a good win for us," said Central coach Drew Lilledahl. "It's nice as a coach to see all our hard work pay off."
Poplar Bluff's JV prevailed 42-6.
Central will compete in the SEMO Conference Meet Saturday in Ste. Genevieve. Wrestling starts at 11 a.m.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL
Cape Central Tournament
New Madrid County Central and Sikeston claimed championships Thursday night as the Cape Central eighth and ninth grade tournament wrapped up.
New Madrid won the ninth grade division by beating Jackson 58-53 while Sikeston captured the eighth grade title by downing Poplar Bluff 48-41 in overtime.
Cape Central's freshmen finished third with a 44-41 win over Notre Dame as Chris Cole and Jonathan Ayers each scored 10 points.
Jackson's eighth grade wound up third with a 39-22 win over Cape Central.
